JVC HA-XP50BT XX Wireless On Ear BassPort Headphones

Early this year, we saw JVC drop some serious Xtreme Xplosives with the XX wireless earbuds only to follow up with the Xtreme Xplosives Wireless on ear headphones later this year!
The main selling point of the JVC XX HA-XP50BT Wireless on-ear headphones is deep bass sound which is "ultra bassy" thanks to the integration of BassPort and a BassBoost function that lets you crank the sound frequency down to 6Hz for deep and heavy bass.
Saying this, the bass sound is nicely balanced with clear treble response up to 23kHz and loud volume sound delivered via 40mm neodymium speaker drivers which really make a noticeable difference to the amazing sound.
On the side of the headphone cups, there are small vents that let air in and out the headphone enclosure, which is how the JVC XX wireless headphones are able to generate such a low bass response.
The JVC XX HA-XP50BT Wireless on-ear headphones support SBC, AAC and aptX audio codecs so both Android and iOS users can enjoy high fidelity audio.
All said, to enjoy the top end sound quality you have to wire yourself to the device using the included cable.
Over wireless, the frequency response drops noticeably down to 20-20,000Hz. That being said, the sound quality over bluetooth 4.1 (class 2) connection is still pretty good and stable over 10 meters long in direct-line-of-sight.
Some headphones with BassPort vents can leak sound and let background noise in but this is not the case with the JVC XX HA-XP50BT headphones which do not leak sound like open back headphones nor do they let background noise in.
You can also turn on-and-off the BassBoost feature at a touch of a button via a dedicated and clearly marked Bass button.
Talking about buttons, the JVC XX wireless headphones user control buttons are all located on the right earcup where you also find a 3.5mm headphone jack, an led activity indicator and a micro USB charging port.
A 1.2 meter long is also included (3.5mm straight male to 3.5mm male right angle).
There are a total of two buttons and a dedicated volume rocker on the far side. All the buttons are clearly marked and tactile thanks to tiny raised stubs.
On the left ear cup of the JVC XX on-ear headphones, you find the NFC chip which provides a faster and easier way to pair the headphones to your smartphone.
Not all headphones come with NFC connectivity so it's nice to see this additional feature on the JVC XX wireless series headphones.
Talking about earcups, both ear cups on the JVC XX on-ear headphones swivel 180 degrees, letting you position the ear cups flush horizontally for transportation.
There is also a built-in microphone, as well as support for bluetooth profiles (A2DP, AVRCP, HFP and HSP) for remote audio playback control and handsfree calling.
The adjustable headband on the JVC XX on-ear headphones has a rather unique design being hidden out of view.
You cannot see the notches when adjusting the headband up and down, making the headband design sleak and discreet.
The headband, as well as the ear cups, have comfortable leather foam padding. The red finish foam on the headband and black finish foam padding on the ear cups make a nice contrast.

The overall design of the JVC XX on-ear headphones is snug fitting so they don't stick out too wide on your head.
With that said, there is plenty of room for a pair of glasses if you wear them. The headphones are comfy to wear too for long periods of time as they only weigh 206 grams and the headband has a low clamping force.
The materials used for making the JVC XX on-ear headphones include matte plastic, glossy aluminum, leather accents and anti-shock rubber to protect the headphone enclosure.
At 35+ hours from a single 3.5-hour charge, the built-in battery in the JVC XX on-ear headphones is long lasting and fast charging even though it recharges via 5V 510mA input.
The Quick Charge addition to the XX headphones means a 10-minute charge powers the headphones for a cool 3 hours.
